This is not a political blog by any means, but my wife Jessica and my means of mass communication to those that desire to read our thoughts and a storytelling of our life together as we serve the Lord in Indonesia. However, with the recent election my thoughts have been capitalized by politics so it is only fair that I share some with our readers.
With the election of Mr. Obama (a Democrat) to our nation’s highest office and the continued majority that the Democratic Party now holds in both houses of Congress we have a blue-veined federal government. Mr. Obama will most likely face little real opposition to the “change” that he wants to bring. With a fairly large majority, assuming that those Democrats for the most part walk lock-step with the leader of their party (and our nation), the Democrats will be able to push through many pieces of legislation that at least half of the citizens of the U.S. will oppose.
We will most likely see an expansion on abortion rights. Though I pray, Lord please, that the awful practice of partial-birth abortion will remain banned as President Bush has achieved for our unborn children. Yet still, abortion will be expanded. As well, a largely socialist economic agenda will most likely be pursued and even accomplished by our Blue government. And many of our freedoms will slowly be taken away through the well-intentioned, yet misguided leadership we have elected.
And yet, I have a great hope.
Even though our federal government will be controlled by a single party, the complete opposite of what the Framer’s intended, each state still retains the right to make laws for its citizens as it sees fit, so long as those laws do not conflict with the U.S. Constitution. At the same time that Mr. Obama won the required electoral votes to be our next president, the state of California voted to amend their state constitution to define marriage as that between a man and a woman.
You see, the reason I love America is that we always have a voice. Yes, right now my Republican views will not be heard as well at the federal level, but at the state level it might still ring clear. And I will never give up that voice, whether my views are in the majority or a small minority.
I encourage all of you to not be discouraged by the results of this election. Instead, I pray that we might find a renewed vigor to continue to share our views with those around us. That is the greatness of America.
In many countries around the world, when power changes hands, it happens down the barrell of a gun. But in our wonderful country, the only shots that will be heard are those of a 21-gun salute on Inauguration Day. We have proven to the world over and over that two conflicting voices can be heard at the same time, yet peace can prevail.
God bless America!
