Note: I started this post a few weeks ago.
Last Monday we planned to set off on a one night, two day vacation to Taman Safari. After having our helper call the Safari to find out about a room then to book us a place to stay plus call the car company to get us a rate and then to get us a car we were finally set and excited. On Monday we got all of our stuff together for the trip, which being a trip with kids meant that we had a lot of stuff. We had enough stuff that if we had gotten stuck there for a week we probably would have been ok. The car arrived Monday morning, but when Evan went to get the stuff packed into the car he noticed that there were no seatbelts meaning that we could not strap the boys’ carseats in. Here in Indonesia you aren’t required to wear seatbelts or have your children in carseats. Some cars, like the one we received, aren’t even made with seatbelts. So after many calls and decisions, we decided to postpone the trip until the next day when we could get a car with seatbelts.
We didn’t have anything planned for Monday so we decided to take the angkot to Carrefour. Where we live we pretty much have two stores that we do most of our shopping at: Hypermart and Carrefour. They both are like a small version of Walmart. They are very similar to eachother and sell almost the same things, but with enough of a difference that we wanted to make the trip to Carrefour which is farther away. This is a picture of some ancolts that I found online.
They are cheap transportation for most of the country (costing only a few thousand Rupiah or 10 or 20 cents US) and they take you all around town. The downside is that whatever you buy, you have to carry with you and with us having two children with us, carrying much is difficult. Here is some video of our adventure.
We’ll blog about Taman Safari sometime soon as well (I hope).
