Ten Minute Countdown on a Tired New Year’s Eve

M’dn’ght is a mere 11 minutes away on the equator.

Now its 10.

The house is quiet. One boy is in his bed. The other has already snuggled into ours. Jess is sleeping (hopefully). And I am up for no real reason.

There are fireworks bursting outside quite rapidly.

9 minutes.

Not sure if I’m going to keep up these last minutes. I should just shut down and shut off.

8. Mind is blanks.

7 to go.

We had a couple of friends over tonight. When you’re married with young kids (which we all were – three families) then the Midnight parties end at seven so nobody misses their (6 minutes) bedtime.

Each kid was chasing some other kid. Some were pelting each other with plastic fruit. 5 left. The kids watched Horton Hears a Who while the adults played (4 minutes) Yahtzee.

One couple are Indian and so they would chat sometimes in Hindi. The other were missionaries in Japan for 15 years and would be exclaiming in Nihongo (Japanese).

Just 3 minutes ’til 2010.

Jess and I tried speaking sign language with our feet but (2 more) but without someone to interpret the Bible say’s you’re not supposed to talk in toes.

1 minute.

I give up. I’m not young enough for this anymore.

Happy New Year, Two Thousand and Ten or Twenty Ten – whatever be your vernacular.

God bless.

M’dn’ght. Goodn’ght.
