Christmas has come and gone, but I think it was the best one Evan and I have had together so far. We tried to make it as Christmasy as possible, but with the warm weather, humidity, sunshine, and lack of Christmas lights or decorations around the town, it made it difficult to really feel the Christmas spirit.
On Christmas Eve Jeremiah and I made sugar cookies to give to the security guards at the school, Evan took a quick trip to the store, I made a pumpkin pie, Evan and Tri made a yummy Christmas eve dinner of Chicken and a bunch of veggies (or “veg” as Evan’s new inspiration Jamie Oliver says). We ate dinner, read some of the birth story including have Tri read it in Indonesian from and Indonesian Bible. We ate pumpkin pie and watched “Friends” on t.v. since that is the one show from home that we get here and watch regularly. After the kids were asleep we turned on the Yule Log that Evan had downloaded and sat in front of our “fire” while we wrapped and put out all of the gifts under the tree. I told Evan that if we really wanted to feel toasty we could turn off the air conditioning and make the “fire” feel even more authentic.
Christmas morning Evan got up and made us pancakes with strawberries while I got ready and brought the boys down. After breakfast we went to the tree and the fun began. Most of the gifts were for Jeremiah so he had a great time going and getting them from under the tree and opening them, all the while making sure we all knew whose they were. All we could hear all morning was, “Mine.” “Mine.” “Mine.” If the gift wasn’t for him he would get upset, though he was pretty good. We talked to parents online, the boys took a nap, and we took a walk to the school to let Jeremiah play at the park. While Jeremiah was still asleep, Evan, Silas, and I played a homemade version of Jenga with Jeremiah’s new set of blocks and we had some good quality time. We had leftovers for dinner, watched “The Nativity” and put the boys to bed. A very slow paced and good couple of days.
Here are a few pictures:
Silas refusing to lift his head up for the camera.
Jeremiah unwrapping a gift while wearing new socks from Grandpa Ralph and Grandma Donna.
Silas holding his one new gift, other than clothes.
More gifts. Jeremiah wanted Silas to wear his other pair of socks.
Our tree before the gifts were opened. Notice where all the ornaments are.
