Jess was remarking to me just the other day how different living here in Indonesia is compared to when we were at her parents, in Yakima, or at Corban. We thought there was little time for one another then, but we couldn’t even imagine how little opportunity we have for one another now. Here is a rundown of an average day:
5:15-5:45 Wake Up, start getting ready
6:00 Jeremiah wakes up and has breakfast with us
6:45 I head off to work while Jess begins her day of chasing after Jeremiah and Silas (not so much chasing there I suppose)
6:45-3:30 Teach, teach, prepare, teach, teach, teach… / Chase, chase, nap, chase, chase, chase
3:15-4:30 (MWF) Coach basketball, (T) Swimming, (Th) Staff Chapel
4:30 Head home to spend time with Jess and the boys
5:00 Dinner, on Wednesday’s we have three/four of my students over for dinner until seven
7:00-8:00 Give Jeremiah a bath, read a Bible story, pray together, take turns laying with Jeremiah to get him to fall asleep
8:40 Try to spend twenty minutes together just laying in each other’s arms and either reminiscing about living in the States, dreaming about what might be next (New Zealand is brought up most often, or perhaps grad school), or the stressors and blessings of being here
9:00 Jess usually heads off to bed while I get ready to start working again
9:00 – 11, 12, or sometimes later Prepare for the next day’s lessons
Needless to say, I have been operating on less than five solid hours a night and Jess’ sleep is interrupted by Silas pretty often.
We can definitely use prayer. This list doesn’t even show the many other small (yet really big) responsibilities that come along like preparing for our home worship group, leading or being on committees, operating a website for my students, or answering the many questions that arrive via telephone, email, or sms from my students each night.
Thus ends my rant for today. God bless you all.
