Jess and I are in the process of writing a series of children’s books, based mostly on our boys and their constant misadventures. We’ve probably got about ten or so ideas we’re working through and two or three drafts written.
The Premise
The stories follow two brothers, Zach who is four and thinks he knows everything and likens himself to an adult and his younger three-year-old brother Alli, who does not speak. Because Alli doesn’t speak, Zach believes he can speak on his behalf and often does so to disastrous effects. Alli, despite being younger, is incredibly intelligent and is the de facto brains behind their schemes.
The Process
We want to share the process we are going through from conception, rough drafts, polishing, and publishing and so will share snippets and possibly full story’s as we go. We’re doing the illustrating ourselves and will share that too.
The Promise
Tomorrow I’ll be posting a first draft of a story with the working title, “When I Go to Sleep” but for a taste now, here is a scan of the first sketch of what Zach could possibly look like. It was done using pencil and paper but I will take it from there and do the coloring, shading, etc. in Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator.
Hope you enjoy!
