So I am not one to enter many contests or such. As I see one presented to me, I may consider it, but usually I do not go out and search for them. This Christmas season it seems as though a lot of tech blogs have been doing tech giveaways and it would seem, enjoy giving them to me.
I received another email yesterday informing me that I had won another contest, this one from Notebooks.com.
In the past month, these are the pieces of gear that I have been blessed with winning. I have not received it all, but I will be blogging about it when I do.
- A FreeAgent Desk 1 Terabyte Hard Drive and a 500 Gb FreeAgent Go Portable Hard Drive from Notebooks.com worth about $379.
- HP Magic Giveaway from BostonPocketPc
- An HP TouchSmart IQ816 PC with Windows
- HP HDX 18 series Premium Notebook PC with Windows
- HP MediaSmart Connect
- HP Pavilion dv4-1145go Entertainment Notebooks with Windows
- HP Mini 1000 series with Windows
- HP Photosmart C6380 Wireless AIO
- HP 564 Series Photo Value Pack
- Microsoft Office Home & Student 2007
- Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate / Home Premium
- Microsoft Windows XP
- Microsoft Windows Live,
- Corel VisualStudio X2,
- Kung Fu Panda widescreen DVDs
- A free copy of Camtasia 6.0, which is a very high-end screen capturing tool from GottaBeMobile.com worth about $300.
So all of these have been very surprising and also will be (once the arrive) a great, great blessing. We are considering how the Lord wants us to use all this gear to bless others. We will most likely be giving away at least one of the laptops to one of the Lentera village schools here in Indonesia, but our concern right now is safety. If you put a powerful $1000 laptop in a village, how long will it remain there? When there is no money for food, it will be the first thing to go I am sure. Which is fine, if that is what must happen for people to survive, but we’d rather see an eternal difference made through education then just one more meal.
We’ve considered seeing if we could take one of the laptops to a local dealer and try to trade it for 3 or 4 Mini 1000’s which would be of comparable cost. We could then distribute more computers and these would better suit the needs of the students anyway. I’m not sure how much a village needs HD?
Anyways, if you have any ideas of how we could use any of this gear (plus the gear we already have purchased/received over the years: InFocus Projector & iPod 5th Gen both through a grant and then high-end software, Adobe CS3 Master Collection [Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Flash, Acrobat, etc.] and Libronix Scholar Gold) then leave a comment. We are already using some of it to further His Kingdom, but maybe there is a way that we have not thought of that would combine these technologies for a more powerful sword.
